Q. Why use an Association Management Company?
​A. For many organisations, association management companies provide a staffing model that better fits the specific needs of the organisation with a lower overhead cost. Volunteer members in an organisation are critical in providing guidance for the association, but are often too busy with daily life duties to perform day to day services. TMSL helps take this burden off your volunteers.

Q. What are the advantages of using TMSL?
A. TMSL can help you:
  • Avoid the "Jack of All Trade, Master of None" Syndrome: Associations that utilise an employee staff model often have a person that is very good at one or two specific association functions, but do not particularly enjoy or excel at other duties. TMSL staff allow them to put the right person in the right seat on the bus. An association management model allows the expert to be in each of the needed areas.
  • Avoid Employment and Management Headaches and Liability: Associations that utilise an employee staff model often experience hardship as their volunteers deal with managing an employee. This forces the volunteers to deal with employment law compliance requirements, training and the costs of providing employee benefits, which are often required by law. Association management companies like TMSL absorb these responsibilities, freeing our clients of these headaches.
  • Avoid Dramatic Transitions and Loss of Experience: Employee turnover is a natural occurrence in every organisation and company. When associations that utilise an employee staff model have their sole employee leave for another job or retirement, a massive amount of information leaves with them. There is usually a significant learning curve that has to take place while training his/her replacement. This places a heavy burden on the volunteer Board of Directors. In contrast, association management models allow the client's needs to be spread amongst many staff members. If turnover occurs within TMSL, the client's members are largely unaware because there has been no interruption of services.

Q. We don't need much help. Is there a service package that would suit us?
A. We will work with you to determine what your requirements are and then only charge you for the services, and hours you need us for. This could be as little as 8 hours of administration a month, or board minutes once a month or as much as 20 hours of administration including finance, communication and membership each week. The amount of assistance required is up to you.

Q. What if we only need help in one area?
A. We can help your association in more ways than one, but we also understand that sometimes you're simply not sure what you need or only need a specific service. Connect with us to discuss how we can help.

Q. Our Executive Committee are situated through-out the country. Does this Matter?
With the use of technology, the location of you (or TMSL) does not matter. We would encourage teleconferencing technology for meetings, online technology for data storage, membership CRM's, and Communication.

Q. We have a full-time Executive Director, how would you help?
A. Associations that have an Executive Director may also benefit from TMSL’s services. In addition to full association management services, TMSL also offers stand-alone conference and meeting planning.  Many times, associations with a fully staffed office may still need assistance due to limited staff time or expertise. TMSL's team has significant experience in planning events of all shapes and sizes, and can collaborate with an association's existing staff.

Q. How much do your charge for services?
A. TMSL contracts with partners based on an annual fee paid in monthly installments.  These fees are all-inclusive to fulfill the terms of the contract. Initial fees are established based on discussions between association leadership and TMSL prior to initial hire.  Following the first year of service, fees are evaluated to ensure they are in line with initial expectations.
